NEAR 90fm (North East Access Radio) is a BCI-licensed, communally-owned, not-for-profit community media project.
The project is operated by a democratic co-operative,Near Media Co-op and is open to all organisations and individuals in Dublin North-East, Ireland. Programming incorporates a positive emphasis on areas such as facilitating and supporting community development, providing access and providing a platform to a wide range of local groups.
Station programming provides a wide range of specialist music programmes (blues, punk, ska etc.) as well as well as a variety of talk programming.
NEAR 90fm was previously known as NEARfm 101.6. On Tuesday 23 January 2007, the station switched to a new frequency of 90.3fm and was renamed NEAR 90fm. NEAR fm first went on air (as NEAR fm 101.5) in August 1995.
NEAR 90fm also has a television department known as NEAR TV and an IT department called NEARonline. The station also runs an internet cafe in the Northside Civic Centre, where the project is based, in Coolock.
NEAR 90fm is a member of CRAOL,The Community Radio Forum of Ireland.
